Sex Offender Working at a Day Care Attacks

A registered sex offender on the Illinois Sex Offender website was found to be working at the “Little Green Tree House” Day Care facility in Chicago.

The offender, Eric Ellis, was placed at the Day Care facility by Food Team, Inc. a Chicago area Temporary Employment Agency.

Investigation found court records that indicate Ellis was convicted of Criminal Sexual Assault for repeated sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl. He served 4 ½ years in prison, was barred from working around children and was placed on the sex offender registry.

One aunt of a child attending the Day Care facility said of her sister, “they pay a lot of money and you would expect excellent service and excellent background checks.”

A manager at the Day Care Center said that they use a temp service when the kitchen staff is sick and the Temp agency is responsible for doing a background check on those it employs. Obviously they were not OK with the Agencies Background Check.

A spokesman for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has launched “both a child protection investigation and a day care licensing complaint.” The spokesman noted that it is the responsibility of the Day Care to ensure the background checks are done.

It is unclear if the Day Care facility will bring a lawsuit against the Temp Agency. It will depend on what action, if any, the State of Illinois takes.
